On September 8th 1991, the Republic of Macedonia became independent, in 1944 on this day, London was hit by the V2 rocket for the first time and in 1966, Star Trek premiers for the first time on NBC. And this is what happened in wrestling today.
2008: The day after the Unforgiven PPV, the World Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho was teamed with JBL to face Batista, the man who thought he had won the championship seconds before the end of the match. Y2J stole a pin on Batista, the animal then preceded to destroy Layfield and Jericho's protégé Lance Cade. Earlier in the night JBL was defeated but countout after he walked out of a match with CHL (Charlie Haas Layfield). Also after punting CM Punk in the head at Unforgiven, with the help of Priceless (Manu, Rhodes and DiBiase), Orton widening a massive divide between himself and the group after slapping Ted DiBiase.
2006: On the edition of Smackdown on this day, King Booker (Booker T) defeated Batista in a World Heavyweight Championship Match, where William Regal and Finlay both interfered in the match. After the match Finlay continued to attack Batista with his sheleilie and a steel chair.
2004: Jeff Jarrett defeated the challenging Jeff Hardy to retain his NWA World Heavyweight Championship on an episode of TNA PPV, see a recap of the show here.
1958: The Barbarian of NWA, WWF and WCW fame was born on this day in New York City. He is a one time NWA United States Tag Team Champion, NWA Virginia Heavyweight Champion, WLW Heavyweight Champion and WWC Puerto Rican Champion.
