Happy Birthday

Never before has such a happy moment seemed so eerie. “Happy Birthday” normally a song filled with love and happiness was usurped and made to be a battle cry of rage and hate of the Straight Edge Society. I mean what’s not to like about this match? CM Punk is one of the most solid performers and evil characters in the WWE right now. He has a massive loathing and hatred behind him and the fact he is picking on Rey, who is one of the most beloved superstars in wrestling right now, and his family means that Punk stock only goes up further.

I’m sorry to say but that girl was crying like CM Punk was the Grim Reaper, pure evil. I really hope that Rey’s Family will be there, backstage or otherwise, just so there can be a bit more Punk-Mysterio Family Interaction. And let’s not forget that if Rey loses he has to join the Straight Edge Society. I mean on the surface you wouldn’t see that happening, but I’ve been thinking recently and been listening to people more in the know than me, who are saying that it’s more viable that Punk walks out of the University of Phoenix Stadium with the win.

“But they wouldn’t let Rey lose, he needs revenge, I mean he’s the fan favourite. You’ll break all the little kids’ hearts”

Stop right there, surely that is exactly what this feud has been about, why not do it again. I mean that would be a kid’s worst nightmare, seeing their hero, their Rey Rey made to follow in CM Punk’s Straight Edge footsteps. And if they have a feud going through summer, which I really hope is the case, it’ll add a fantastic dimension, i.e. with Rey trying to escape from the group, failing up to, say, Summerslam at the Staples Centre, LA in August.

These two have never really fought each other before now, one exception I can remember was at Armageddon 2008 when CM Punk beat Rey to become the #1 Contender for William Regal’s IC Title; Punk nearly broke Mysterio’s nose that time. These two are great athletes, performers and entertainers which will leave it all in the ring tonight. For me this is the dark horse of the night, obviously won’t steal the show thanks to HBK-Taker, but they will give us our money’s worth and get a pay check they deserve. Also look for the SES to do some great work outside the ring.

Royal Rumble 2010: World Heavyweight Championship Match

Deadman vs Underdog

This will be the best singles match of the night. These are two best wrestlers of all time, there is no doubting that and there is no doubt that these two are future Hall of Famers.

The lead up to this match has been interesting, to say the least. 'Taker has been slightly absent from TV and House Shows, he was probably sitting at home watching the #1 Contenders Match when "he" took out Rey and Batista and then his music sounded, a couple of weeks ago, thinking "What? Oh No Not Another Fake Undertaker!"

Batista has been a strange addition to this feud, with his vendetta against lil Rey Rey. His character has evolved as people have really settled into the fact that his music means you "boo!", that might be why they have had him running through the crowd and doing lots of backstage segments. Batista could be one of the biggest heels of 2010, just depending if he can improve his in-ring heel psychology.

Anyway, I digress, the World Heavyweight Championship will be up for grabs and really this will be the thing I least care about in this match, because when at the top of a solid SmackDown card every week is an ever evolving Mysterio vs Batista feud, who seriously needs the Demon of Death Valley. Unless you need a couple more Pay-Per-View Buys.

I don't really know what to think of the lead up into this match that's really why this preview has been so rubbish, I personally am at odds with this feud; but it hasn't needed to be so solid, yeah, there have been good promos here and there, but I mean, remember what this match is again. In finishing I have to say that I liked the end on the run-in Friday Night SmackDown, with Rey and Shawn Michaels (again another HoF'er not far off) and the Undertaker interference, overlapping with the Taker Streak Storyline.

Anyway to be honest, I really don't mind who wins tonight, best odds are on the deadman to be walking out of the Royal Rumble and into Elimination Chamber as the World Heavyweight Championship.

Royal Rumble is Sunday, 31st January 2010 Live on Pay-Per-View at 8pm ET/5pm PT/1am GMT.

2009 Dirty Awards: Best Storyline of the Year

This Dirty should not be confused with Best Feud of the Year. This Dirty is looking at everything involved except the matches between the Superstars involved. The reason why Cena vs. The Miz won is that it really helped The Miz get to where he is now a serious rising star. The promos The Miz cut were amazing and to be honest what he was saying about Cena echoed what some of the crowd was thinking. The Batista vs. Mysterio angle is good but I did dislike the use of Eddie Guerrero’s death which mean this storyline could never win the Dirty. Jeff Hardy and CM Punk had brilliant matches but the storyline itself got very repetitive, there is only so many times you can hear about freedom of choice and the evils of drugs before you get bored. Kingston vs. Orton the only thing perhaps stopping this feud winning the Dirty is that it started to late in the year. Y2J vs. Legends feud really got a shot in the arm by the violent assault against Ric Flair which might have been the first blood I had seen before the PG split which made it special. But Mickey Rouke and a lack of development let this feud down and meant it could not win the Dirty.

O’Dea Notes: And the fact that Mickey Rouke randomly calling him out and then being told that because of an insurance policy, he couldn’t fight a fly let alone a Jericho. We don’t care about Ironman 2.

Although all of these superstars have spectacular entrances but there is on entrance that is simply breath taking. Before the introduction of the pyrotechnic it was great but with the addition of the pyrotechnic it is beyond belief.

O’Dea Note: No Doubt that since Morrison got pyro it was obvious who was going to win this award, unlike when Primo got the Catharine Wheels during his entrance, strange. Personally I would only think that this award could be won by either Rey or John, but you have to be impressed with the, now, former Intercontinental Champion’s entrance definitely the best in the WWE Universe.

Do I really need to explain why this match is the winner of this dirty? Shawn Michaels’ entrance was amazing. Even if The Undertaker’s entrance was a Gangrel rip off we can forgive that for what happened next. The match was ‘vintage’ Undertaker and HBK. We saw classic Wrestlemania moments like Takers suicide dive (see dirty award for OMG moment of the year) as well as the finish HBK Moonsault into a Tombstone. The other candidates are their also for obvious reasons. JoMo vs. Mysterio was one of the best matches I have seen on Smackdown but the lack of storyline is what let it down. The Falls count anywhere submission match was good because the ending was a shock and it proved Legacy could work hard. The Iron Man match was a brilliant spectacle but the technical ability of the superstars was lacking. The ladder match between Jeff and Edge was a reminder of so many of their epic battles of the past but still a great match in its own right.

O’Dea Note: Taker-Michaels was arguably the match of the decade. They tore the house down, like everyone knew they would. They went for just under 31 minutes and strangely I thought that they were still limited or not given enough time, probably because Trips wanted 20 minutes at the end, I mean that match really screwed the audience at Reliant Stadium over, it wasn’t Wrestlemania Main Event quality especially after the nearly picture perfect build up. And also Triple H never actually smashed through that glass live, they just saw him stand there for a second then walk down the ramp through a frame, people in the stadium must have gone “What, What on earth was that”. I mean, what happened there surely if Shelton is allowed to jump off that enormous ladder, live, surely Trips can break a bit of glass, live!

I also really liked the Submissions Count Anywhere Match, it was interesting how they were going to do it leading up to the PPV, but they didn’t disappoint, the only disappointment, if any, was you knew that Shawn Michaels would be the one who took the loss. I was the over-riding reason that the Ironmatch was in the nominations just because of the spectacle and in relation to the rest of the PPV, it was miles and miles better than anything else on the card. The only reservation I have with that match was how obvious the ending the was and who was going to win with just under 2 minutes to go.

Rey to lose $100,000 Over 30-Day Suspension

According to a report by The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the belief is that Rey Mysterio's 30 day suspension from WWE will cost him in excess of $100,000. Mysterio will be missing the Breaking Point PPV, multiple house shows, and is not expected to return for the Hell in a Cell PPV on October 4th since WWE will not have time to build up a match for him.

Mysterio will be allowed to collect merchandise sales during the suspension, which is a huge revenue source for stars in WWE. It is believed Mysterio earns $1.5 million annually, and a large chunk of that comes from merchandise sales, as he is one of the top sellers in WWE. Mysterio's merchandise sales have always been strong even when he has been out with injuries.

The Cheek of it

Today WWE.com have reported as a main story that Rey Mysterio has been suspended for 30 days in accordance to their wellness policy. Yes, it is true that his suspension starts today and it was so he could drop the Intercontinental Championship at the tapings yesterday. But they have a link from the main story to the same short written article which was written last week (Thursday August 27, 2009) to report the story.

Obviously their was no reference to that the suspension had been delayed until today and why would there. But why make it obvious to the casual follower that this isn't totally full proof with the timing of their highlighted (& controlled) reporting of this internal matter.

And why not for everyone just keep it quiet, people who want to know can find out very easily, they're not this public normally for suspensions & releases by making it their top story.

"Matt Hardy was looking fatter than William Regal this week"

This week's Smackdown was fantastic and unlike Raw, lived up to the expectation and benchmark set from SummerSlam. This edition was what I wanted from a piece of WWE programing, it was fun, athletic, emotional, great storylines and looked fresh from ever angle, and was edited for no apparent reason.

To start off the night we had "The Only Straight-Edge World Heavyweight Champion in History", CM Punk, who has cemented his place as one of the top heels in wrestling today, everything about him has become distasteful and I love it. The fact that he illustrates himself as the good guy, for telling truth, that frankly the audience can't handle, means that his character is labeled, as Chris Jericho would say, a parasite. I really enjoyed Jeff & Punk's back and forth during their promo, most of all CM Punk saying "I Hate these people booing at me", just adding more fuel to the fire. At least we didn't get the MVP "Oh Please SHUT UP!", think of something original Montel (or WWE Creative), that is the weakest and most lazy (creative!) response ever, I'm not watch this at stupid hour on a Tuesday morning, so you can say that to one of the best wrestlers and best speaker of his generation, Y2J. Anyway I got sidetracked at fucking Porter.

Next up was a strangely short opening bout (for Smackdown), with John Morrison & Matt Hardy (returned from the bad boy position) to face the up and coming, and growing to my good side rapidly, The Hart Dynasty. Before, I say anything, Matt Hardy was looking fatter than William Regal this week and his movement around the ring confirmed that. The Hart Dynasty and John Morrison are just fantastic! Most of all Tyson Kidd. Some people were a bit turned by the news that The Hart Dynasty were moving up to Smackdown from ECW after being together for only couple of weeks and to a show (sorry, company) with no real tag team, as it was thought at the time, but they have really shown how good they are, sightly being carried by Kidd, which is good cause I love him in the ring. This was more a Monday Night Raw match, but still was decent.

Enjoying these Melina-Maria skits, is WWE really illustrating Dolph as a nice guy behind the scenes or is because they're not sure about turning Maria heel.

Next up was Drew MacIntyre kicking R-Truth's Head off, keep an eye on him and also he's a fellow Scot, so some home field advantage. 'Nough said!

Melina-Layla & McCool, whatever.

Rey Mysteriod was is action versus Kane and got the crap beaten out of him at the end by Kane & Dolph (he is so good!), and I think that this was because they knew about Rey's violation at the TV tapings or before Tuesday, like the way they use to crap on Kendrick because he kept on smoking pot and paying the fines and so WWE had no reason to push him when they could squash him into a pancake. Rey, what where you doing, you're one of the biggest stars in the biggest wrestling company in the world, adored by millions of children around the world and you seem to be able to take time off on tap, and didn't you remember you have two children and another one coming, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! Also, when Khali came out I thought "Oh, fucking hell" but after staying with it because I have to watch this shit, I enjoyed the Kendo Stick segment then Dolph Zig-Zagging his way to a title match next week and not at WWE Breaking Point.

Shad Gaspard should never be let loose as a singles wrestler or was it just cause they were angry? But the tag match in the end was good, but just like with the ECW Championship match, why would Americans pay $40 just to see the match the next week for free. Well Done Cryme Tyme, why are the make shift team of team of MVP & Mark "bright primary colour" Henry getting a title match?

The Main Event was absolutely fantastic, at times left me speechless, like when Punk superplex'd Jeff from the top of the cage, that was nearly on parallel with the superplex onto the ladder on Sunday. This was to good for my words, you just needed to see it and everyone now knows that Jeff went out on two of some of the best matches of his life that helped Punk massively. Jeff's end speech was short which didn't matter as the crowd were into it their self. I saw a leaked video from a fan in the arena and Jeff took ages going around giving everyone high-fives who he could reach and also going into the crowd, which on the final product was heavily edited (you can see as he changes his clothing around very quickly for no apparent reason). The cheap shot by Punk to end the show wasn't written in good taste, you don't need that, yeah it might create heat but WWE give anyone going away no dignity at all, i.e. when Victoria "retired" she got squashed (as babyface) by Michelle McCool, and then had a emotional good bye that was never showed on TV, another example was when Vickie Guerrero quit as Raw GM, and she got verbally "shat" on by Edge, and this wasn't received very well in the locker room, considering everything she has done and has gone through with/for WWE (i.e. death of her husband Eddie and one of her best friends Chris Benoit).

All in all, I'm impressed, WHY CAN'T RAW BE LIKE THIS!!!

Rey Mysterio was the last person I would have thought would have in drugs offensives after what happened to his close friend Eddie Guerrero and to be honest it is a sad day for WWE and for Rey. I can't write anymore because to be honest I am simply disgusted!

As announced yesterday (Thursday) on WWE.com, effective next Wednesday, Rey Mysterio has been suspended for 30 days for a violation of the company's drug testing policy. It seems likely he will work next Tuesday's SmackDown taping in Cleveland in order to drop the Intercontinental Championship before serving his suspension. Dolph Ziggler secured an Intercontinental Championship match at next month's WWE Breaking Point pay-per-view by defeating Mike Knox and Finlay in a No. 1 Contender's Match on last night's edition of WWE Superstars.

While this is Mysterio's violation of WWE's drug testing policy, this isn't the first time his name has been linked to substances of a questionable nature.

On March 19, 2007, the official website of Sports Illustrated posted an article in its continuing series investigating a steroid and HGH ring used by a number of professional athletes in several sports. The article mentioned several current and former WWE wrestlers — including Mysterio — as being tied to the ring. David Wilbirt, an Arizona doctor, allegedly issued prescriptions for the anabolic steroids nandrolone (also known as Deca-Durabolin) and stanozolol (also known as Winstrol) to Mysterio. Wilbirt had been investigated by the Drug Enforcement Agency from 2001 to 2005 for allegedly writing 3,879 prescriptions between November 2004 and April 2005, all for "patients" who had requested drugs over the Internet.

WWE later made a statement on the situation, mentioning that the allegations preceded the drug testing program the company launched in February 2006. Through WWE, Mysterio declined commenting on the allegations to Sports Illustrated.

Mysterio's name would once again be linked to a shady doctor later that year following the Chris Benoit double murder and suicide. On this occasion, his name was being linked to the federal investigation of Benoit's physician, Dr. Phil Astin III. He was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for his conviction on illegally dispensing prescription drugs to 17 patients from 2002 until his arrest in 2007. One of the patients he was arrested for improperly dispensing medications to was "O.G.", which happens to be the initials of Mysterio's real name, Oscar Gutierrez. It was later confirmed by ABCNews.com that "O.G." was indeed WWE wrestler Rey Mysterio. In the indictment filed against Astin, it was disclosed that "O.G." had been prescribed 120 Percosets, 150 Lorcets and refills allowed for 450 more Lorcets on June 28, 2006. He received a similar level of medication a few weeks later on July 20, 2006. He was listed as having only made those two visits to Astin.

When questioned about his involvement with Astin during an appearance on Fox News' Red Eye program in August 2007 promoting his return from injury at SummerSlam a few days later, Mysterio said he was prescribed pain medication from Astin due to six knee operations. He also denied ever using steroids.

Rey Mysterio Suspended

WWE announced yesterday night that Intercontinental champion Rey Mysterio has been suspended 30 days for violating the WWE Wellness Policy. Mysterio does not have any previous violations of the Wellness Policy according to WWE's official records.

WWE stated the suspension takes effect on Wednesday, September 2, which is the day after next week's Smackdown TV taping. Mysterio is booked for an Intercontinental Title defense at the Sept. 13 Breaking Point PPV, which would fall in the middle of the suspension. It appears that Rey will be written off TV at next week's taping whilst somehow dropping the Intercontinental Championship to Dolph Ziggler.

Déjà PPVu - Latest Extreme Rules Card

Lets be honest, right now the WWE PPV summer schedule is in full swing, but this is a bit off-colour having the 1st five PPV matches that have been confirmed being a rerun of Judgement Day, just with stipulations. I understand that this is the way the WWE run their summer feuds, and maybe even with Cena-Show, the stipulation has a bit of sorry behind it, but it just seems too "same-ish" (and not in a good way). And then you add in that people like Cena and Mysterio apparently (story-line wise) want to move on from their Judgement Day opponents, but still get put back into those matches, it's too obvious because is there anyone else for Cena to go after whilst Randy Orton is locked in a Steel Cage. And what is a Samoan Strap Match, on Smackdown Friday night is just looked like a long and fat belt, it that it (and it was strange to here Umaga speak in his normal "American" voice, well he hardly going to have a strong Samoan accent, considering Dwanye "Not the Rock" Johnson is his cousin). FOLLOW-UP NOTE: I've been doing to research and I've found out that CM Punk hasn't been on a PPV card only 6 times since WrestleMania 23 (the point at which all WWE PPVs became Tri-branded) in 2007 (and on one of them, at Cyber Sunday 2008, he could have had a match and was also on the poster for the PPV). And between WrestleMania 23 and 24 he only missed Backlash 2007. At the worst PPV in WWE History, December to Dismember, CM Punk was in the Extreme Elimination Chamber after only being on WWE Programming for 5 Months, that after being in DX's Survivor Series team in 2006. WWE seem to have trust in him ever since he came to the company and now believe that he can become one of the biggest faces on Smackdown.

Judgement Day 2009: Intercontinental Championship

If you ask Chris Jericho, he’ll tell you that he should be competing for the World Heavyweight Title at Judgment Day. But he’d be better suited not to dismiss the Superstar he is facing at the pay-per-view — Rey Mysterio — for the Intercontinental Championship. On last Friday’s SmackDown, Jericho marched into General Manager Theodore Long’s office, shoved Mysterio out of the way and demanded a World Heavyweight Championship Match. While he wasn’t given an opportunity flat-out, he was given a chance—if Jericho could defeat Jeff Hardy that night, then the main event of Judgment Day would become a Triple Threat Match between World Heavyweight Champion Edge, Jericho and Hardy. However, when the first-ever Undisputed Champion and The Charismatic Enigma met in the ring later that night, Intercontinental Champion Rey Mysterio appeared at ringside and distracted Jericho, allowing Hardy to hit the Twist of Fate and a Swanton Bomb for the victory. Mysterio then scaled the top rope and launched himself onto the prone Jericho, scoring a measure of retribution for Jericho's insult earlier in the night. Clearly, The Ultimate Underdog had enough of the loudmouthed, egotistical Jericho and wanted to send him a message. Since being drafted to SmackDown, Jericho has done nothing but insult the WWE Universe and claim that he is the most important Superstar on the roster. Mysterio, a Superstar who considers SmackDown his home, took it upon himself to put Jericho’s rampant ego in check, and he’ll get another chance to do just that when he defends his title against Jericho at Judgment Day. This contest won’t be an easy one for The Master of the 619. While Rey wowed the WWE Universe when he won the Intercontinental Championship from JBL in an unbelievable 21 seconds at the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania, he is facing one of the greatest Intercontinental Champions of all time. No Superstar has held this title as many times as Jericho, and his amazing eight reigns are a testament to the fact that he rises to the occasion whenever gold is on the line. Can The Ultimate Underdog repeat his showstopping WrestleMania performance and shut Jericho’s mouth, or will Jericho “Codebreak” his way to a ninth Intercontinental Title and move one step closer to finding the respect he demands?

Strangely with this only being the 4th episode of WWE Superstars, this is the 3rd time Hornswoggle would have made an appearance on the show and the Big Show's Second.

Also on this edition of WWE Superstars, The Gold Standard Shelton Benjamin will face the current Intercontinental Champion Rey Mysterio, what will happen between two of Smackdown's best Superstars, just 3 days before Rey defends his Championship against Chris Jericho at Judgement Day.

Latest on Jericho vs Mysterio

News Backstage is that Chris Jericho has requested a lengthy program with Rey Mysterio and will have a creative hand in putting the feud together. Rey's mask will be incorporated into the angle because of the reaction they got after Jericho "accidently" unmasked Mysterio on the European tour.
