2009 Dirty Awards: Tag Team of the Year

Nominations and Winner:
- Legacy (Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes)
- JeriShow (Winner)
- Cryme Tyme
- DX
- The Hart Dynasty (David Hart Smith and Tyson Kidd)
Jerishow dominant since their formation at Night of Champions and champions since as well. Unsuccessful in their singles exploit against The Undertaker at Survivor Series, but none the less the Codebreaker and knockout punch has helped these two to Tag Team of the Year. Legacy despite being Orton’s lackeys but when they have matches unrelated to him, they prove their worth.
The Hart Dynasty are emerging stars and next year if they keep up their run they will be the future winners of this award. DX are a good team but it’s the same old same old with them. Cryme Tyme are only there because they were a team of worthwhile mention but really nothing special.

2009 Dirty Awards: Best Superstar Theme

Nominations and Winners:

This Dirty is based on music however the reasons can be explained are not just about preference but more about the impact. The two winning songs were picked for different reasons. Crank the Walls Down is a good song because it matched the contrast of styles of both Jericho and Big Show also it matches their aggression. Too many lies combines Sheamus’ Irish nature with an aggressive sound also to match. I am perfection sums Dolph’s arrogance perfectly. Voices sums Orton’s IED and his vile, vindictive and manipulative nature. It’s a New Day highlights legacy drive and determination to be better than their fathers.

2009 Dirty Awards: Feud of the Year

Nominations and Winner:
- Legacy vs. DX
- CM Punk vs. Jeff Hardy (Winner)
- John Cena vs. Randy Orton
- The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels
- Vladimir Kozlov vs. Ezekiel Jackson
Unlike the best and worst storyline of the year Dirty this award looks at the matches and story combined. Punk vs. Hardy won because it took real life and incorporated it. Disappointingly Punk’s warning of Hardy’s lifestyle costing him seems all too true. Legacy and DX’s feud was born out Triple H’s frustration of being old and needing a partner and it went from there. Cena vs. Orton was a good heel vs. Face feud but it lacked the cutting edge to win the award. Taker vs. HBK was a good match and the build up was amazing starting simply with the line ‘the road to Heaven can be Hell’ but I lacked the longevity to make it the feud of the year. Kozlov vs. Jackson and the Ruthless Roundtable is probably the best thing to come from ECW this year. The one-upmanship led to a stable which now looks like it could be falling apart at the seams but as it has not finished it cannot be feud of the year.

O’Dea Note: I don’t know where this last one has come from Methos has just put this in, that’s rubbish that’s not a feud. I’m Annoyed that Zeke-Vladimir got anywhere near this category, It’s not because I haven’t been watching ECW recently, back when that feud was happening I was watching all of ECW every week and that stuff with those two was stupid and crap and to be honest I think Methos was just looking at the bias article on WWE.com about ECW when he wasn't watching it. They think that one diva slapping another (not very well) is a brutal beat down. But otherwise, thanks to a great heel turn by CM Punk his feud against Jeff Hardy was an odds on favourite and well earned winner of this Dirty. It’s strange really because I put up an article on an interview that talked about Punk going heel and back then, it really felt like a millennium away from it actually happening, but I’m glad it did.

2009 Dirty Awards: Match of the Year

- Edge (c) vs Jeff Hardy ladder match, Extreme Rules, 7th June

Do I really need to explain why this match is the winner of this dirty? Shawn Michaels’ entrance was amazing. Even if The Undertaker’s entrance was a Gangrel rip off we can forgive that for what happened next. The match was ‘vintage’ Undertaker and HBK. We saw classic Wrestlemania moments like Takers suicide dive (see dirty award for OMG moment of the year) as well as the finish HBK Moonsault into a Tombstone. The other candidates are their also for obvious reasons. JoMo vs. Mysterio was one of the best matches I have seen on Smackdown but the lack of storyline is what let it down. The Falls count anywhere submission match was good because the ending was a shock and it proved Legacy could work hard. The Iron Man match was a brilliant spectacle but the technical ability of the superstars was lacking. The ladder match between Jeff and Edge was a reminder of so many of their epic battles of the past but still a great match in its own right.

O’Dea Note: Taker-Michaels was arguably the match of the decade. They tore the house down, like everyone knew they would. They went for just under 31 minutes and strangely I thought that they were still limited or not given enough time, probably because Trips wanted 20 minutes at the end, I mean that match really screwed the audience at Reliant Stadium over, it wasn’t Wrestlemania Main Event quality especially after the nearly picture perfect build up. And also Triple H never actually smashed through that glass live, they just saw him stand there for a second then walk down the ramp through a frame, people in the stadium must have gone “What, What on earth was that”. I mean, what happened there surely if Shelton is allowed to jump off that enormous ladder, live, surely Trips can break a bit of glass, live!

I also really liked the Submissions Count Anywhere Match, it was interesting how they were going to do it leading up to the PPV, but they didn’t disappoint, the only disappointment, if any, was you knew that Shawn Michaels would be the one who took the loss. I was the over-riding reason that the Ironmatch was in the nominations just because of the spectacle and in relation to the rest of the PPV, it was miles and miles better than anything else on the card. The only reservation I have with that match was how obvious the ending the was and who was going to win with just under 2 minutes to go.

Ted DiBiase Jr, Streak Ender?

Ted DiBiase Jr recently did an interview with ESPN.com, to promote the new Smackdown vs Raw 2010 video game. One thing that came you in the interview, is that he wants to be the person to end the Undertaker's WrestleMania Streak: Jon Robinson (ESPN.com interviewer): "The new "WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2010" game lets you create your own storyline. If you could write your own future in the business, what would it be?" Ted DiBiase: "I want to defeat The Undertaker at Wrestlemania and break his streak. That would be my ultimate storyline." Jon Robinson: "That would take The Undertaker's story full circle since your dad is the one who introduced him back in the day." Ted DiBiase: "Exactly." Other highlights included him talking about his family and time on the road with legacy: Jon Robinson: "You're teaming with Cody Rhodes [son of Dusty Rhodes], but is there competition between you guys as well since you're both going to eventually be gunning for that same spot on top?" Ted DiBiase: "Yeah, there's competition with everyone. With me and Cody, it's interesting because I have no doubt he will be on top, and I have no doubt that I will be on top, so I think it's one of those things where we feed off of each other and we motivate each other. We're climbing the ladder and that's the really cool thing. He has the same kind of story that I do, so it's really cool to share that with somebody. I have a little brother who is down in FCW as well, so there's a lot to look forward to." Jon Robinson: "So is your brother the next Legacy member?" Ted DiBiase: "I don't know. He's only been down there like six months." Jon Robinson: "How long did it take you to make it up to WWE?" Ted DiBiase: "About six months. [laughs] But he's 21. He's a young guy and he just started. He's doing good, though. He's making good progress." Jon Robinson: "One of the best matches you've had to date was actually against your Legacy teammate, Randy Orton. Was there a lot of pressure for you going into that match as you were trying to prove to everyone that you have what it takes to make it to that top spot?" Ted DiBiase: "There's always that pressure, and especially being in the ring with Randy because he's on top. It's pressure, it's live TV, there are thousands of people watching in the arena and millions watching at home so you want to look good. But that was a cool night for me. I've always wanted to wrestle Randy. We're boys. We're part of the Legacy together right now, but I think the future holds some really cool things, some really cool opportunities." Jon Robinson: "Randy always talks about how traveling with Triple H and Ric Flair changed his career because the vets sat down with him and taught him so much. Does Randy share that knowledge with you and Cody while you guys are on the road?" Ted DiBiase: "Absolutely. Not only do you learn a lot, but Randy always picks up the tab. He's been nothing but help. He offers me help all the time, and he doesn't have to do that, but we share a very special bond, the fact that we're both third-generation wrestlers, so there's that connection there. He's reached out to me and has really made sure that I take the steps that I need to take to hopefully be where he's at one day. We need to build a bigger card. These guys won't be around all the time. Look at D-X … they're old. [laughs] They're old. It's our time now."

Master's Legacy?

If the rumours that Orton helped get Chris Masters his job back with WWE then perhaps he will be the fourth member of Legacy. But is he the only option and does he fit the bill? Well technically he is not a Second or a third generation. But could the rules be flouted so that Legacy could get the power house they need. the real question is who else is there? Perhaps the return of Brian Christopher AKA Grand Master Sexay, although that appears highly unlikely. Perhaps the Bizarre One Goldust could be reunited with his half brother Cody. Would WWE actually bring in Teddy Hart again and if they did would he be Legacy or New Hart foundation material? Would the Colons, sorry the Colóns became Legacy second tag team member, unlikely as Team Priceless are currently gunning for the tag titles. Now his aunt Vickie is leaving could Chavo revert back to being a serious Heel with Legacy. An interesting plot change could be The Big Show joining legacy as in his WCW days as The Giant he was billed as being Andre the Giant son. A unexpected and some what random twist could be Paul Bearer's Kayfabe son and The Undertaker's Half brother Kane could be the power house member of Legacy but don't hold your breath. So Legacy desperately need a power house in the Stable because their cunning not ignored Legacy are one man away from being the best.

Wounded Animal?

WWE.com has reported that "The Animal" Batista will be out for atleast 4 months, it is not yet known if this is just a cover for his original injury or the beatdown on Monday Night was as real as the WWE want you to believe. Saying that he has a "completely torn left bicep" This Article is from WWE.com: Less than 24 hours after capturing the WWE Championship for the first time in his career, Batista has suffered a completely torn left bicep requiring surgery that will keep him out of action for at least four months. The day after he defeated Randy Orton at Extreme Rules, Batista was looking forward to beginning his first ever WWE Championship reign. However, when he appeared on Raw he was in for an unpleasant surprise as he was viciously attacked by The Legacy. The assault left The Animal with a torn bicep, for which he will be undergoing surgery today. Unfortunately, even with the prompt medical treatment, this injury is expected to render Batista unable to compete for several months. Though Batista struggled mightily against his foes, the superior numbers of The Legacy were ultimately too much, as the group of multi-generational Superstars overcame the WWE Champion. The three devious ring warriors focused their attacks on Batista’s left arm, using every underhanded method available to them, applying pressure using the ring ropes, the group’s trademark stomps, and even bringing a steel chair into the mix. Following the craven attack, Orton retrieved the WWE Title from his fallen nemesis, a symbolic act, but one that raises an important question: With Batista injured, what does the future hold for the coveted WWE title?

Massive Raw Main Event from The STAPLES Center and Vince ready to file Lawsuit?

The following is from WWE.com: Live on Raw from Los Angeles' STAPLES Center, WWE presents its answer to the Lakers vs. the Denver Nuggets. WWE Champion Randy Orton, Legacy, The Miz & Big Show face U.S. Champion MVP, Batista, John Cena, Jerry Lawler & a fifth "player."

WWE issued the following statement on their website announcing the Raw in Los Angeles for this Monday: STAMFORD, Conn. – World Wrestling Entertainment has made arrangements, given innumerable logistical challenges and obstacles, to move its internationally televised broadcast, WWE Monday Night Raw to Los Angeles' STAPLES Center. The live televised event, which was scheduled to take place at the Pepsi Center in Denver this Monday, May 25th, will take place live at the STAPLES Center at 5:30 p.m. PT. Tickets for Monday Night Raw in Los Angeles will become available tonight at 8 p.m. ET. WWE was forced to seek alternative arrangements due to the Pepsi Center's double-booking of May 25 for both WWE Monday Night Raw and Game 4 of the NBA Western Conference Finals. The event will now take place live from the home of the Denver Nuggets' opponents, the Los Angeles Lakers. Denver fans wishing to receive a refund for their tickets to the originally scheduled Pepsi Center event must return tickets to the original point of purchase. Vince McMahon spoke to 9News and once again seems to be considering legal action against Denver Nuggets and Pepsi Center owner Stan Kroenke. McMahon said: "It's really unfortunate because if he were just a regular business man and picked up the phone and said, 'Vince, you know, we're throwing you out but I want to make it right, what can we do?' I never heard from Kroenke, I don't know if anyone else has either, by the way, he's somewhat of a Howard Hughes guy I understand. I think our company has been damaged severely from a financial standpoint and from a psychological standpoint as well. You don't treat people the way Kroenke's management treated us. I'm not a litigious kind of guy, but quite frankly when we have a contract and we have over 10,000 tickets sold and you just say: we're out, and we're not going to do anything for you, you know we're not going to make any restitution. We may pay for your additional expenses, that's it. There could very well be a lawsuit down the road." In related news, TMZ.com has picked up the news that Raw is moving to Los Angeles and writes, "Vince isn't moving out of the kindness of his heart, he and the Nuggets struck a settlement -- but the terms of that deal haven't been made public yet."

DH Smith Return, Legacy or Hart?

Tyson Kidd and Natalya were told to expect a third addition to their package soon, that of course being DH Smith.

Smith was drafted to the ECW brand in the Supplemental Draft two weeks ago with the idea to pair him up with the two. Although, his move to the brand squashed the possibility of the second generation wrestler joining Legacy on Raw. Randy Orton had an idea for Smith to be the Arn Anderson of the group, but plans derailed when the heated McMahon storyline came about in mid-January.

All three are quite familiar with each other as they've known each other since childhood. At the age of ten, Kidd was adopted into the Hart family after befriending Teddy Hart. He also lived with Smith for several years and has been living with Natalya for five years.

In 2007, Smith, Kidd and Natalya briefly aligned themselves and formed the Next Generation Hart Foundation in Florida Championship Wrestling. The group disbanded when Smith was called up to the main roster in October of that year.

Late last year, Smith was paired up with Kidd and Natalya once again with the idea to call them up to the main roster. In December, they looked to be on the brink of being called up to SmackDown to work a program with the tag team champions Carlito and Primo, but those plans were squashed when Smith reportedly went behind Kidd's back to suggest to the creative team that they place him in Legacy. Creative apparently bought the idea as the two were unexpectedly broken up in mid-December — a week or two after they started working dark matches.

FCW officials actually turned the behind the scenes happenings into a storyline as Kidd taunted Smith for making it onto television before him even though his former tag partner went behind his back to get in WWE without him.

Randy Orton on why he kicked Manu out of Legacy

In an interview featured in the latest issue of WWE Magazine, Randy Orton reveals why he kicked Manu out of Legacy.

"Respect, that's something that Manu, who had a chance to be part of Legacy, didn't have," Orton told WWE Magazine. "He grew up in the business, and you would've thought he'd have that ingrained in his mind. He had been wrestling since his early teens, and he thought that he was already a veteran in his early 20s. That's what got him fired from Legacy. But I think we're looking to include another part man in the stable to make it all the more powerful. I'll say no more."

While Orton's comments appear to be in-character, they are apparently not as the interview was a non-kayfabe interview with the members of Legacy discussing their real-life aspirations for the group, their families' lineage, what makes the group different than other groups of the past, and more.

However, behind the scenes, it is known that Orton legitimately pushed for Manu to be kicked out of the group, feeling he wasn't in the same league as the other members, and didn't fit in as a result. WWE officials apparently agreed as the son of WWE Hall of Famer Afa was booted from the group in an angle that aired on the January 12, 2009 edition of Raw. Manu's departure from the group ultimately led to his release from World Wrestling Entertainment as the company didn't have anything else for him once they opted against sending him back down to developmental.

Ted DiBiase Jr. Turning Face?

Ted DiBiase Sr. spoke Friday at the Boys and Girls Club in Tomah, Wisconsin. Ted talked about his son Ted Jr. being in Legacy and mentioned that he had another son, Brett, who was involved in WWE developmental and said we’d be seeing him down the line. He didn’t mention his other son Mike. Ted Sr. said that sometime this coming Fall or before Christmas, Ted Jr. would be turning face to promote his new movie, The Marine 2. Ted also said that with his sons involved with WWE, he doesn’t rule out a return to the company.

Road to Wrestlemania and WWE in General

WWE is rolling full steam ahead towards Wrestlemania. Money in the Bank is full up and my hope to win is Kane, but despite internet rumours I think it is Captain Charisma will be taking the briefcase away or will CM Punk make it two in a row? This could be my personal opinion but I have never been a fan of Matt and Jeff Hardy and so I am not particularly excited about this match, but usually Jeff is a solid performer with lots of spills and so is Matt, therefore despite lack of interest on my part it should be good. On Smackdown the Undertaker defeated Kozlov to make it 1-1 and on Raw there was an average tag team match between HBK and Taker Vs JBL and Kozlov. Kozlov’s ring work is getting better and better but the overall match was poor and the surprise ‘Sweet Chin Music’ on the ramp was poor and Shawn’s mad rant was poor. Also on Smackdown Kofi looked fired up taking on Edge and that could signal great things for the WWE and this young rising star. Also Carltio and Primo was unsuccessful which in my opinion is a good thing because I think that the Miz and Morrison are the best tag team in the WWE and this shows that when they took on DX last year there should have been a clear winner and it was not the men in green and black. The World title matches are a really interesting prospect. HHH VS Randy Orton especially with the house invasion being very dramatic. Also the Edge, Vickie and Show love triangle (something I never fought I would say!) HHH VS Rhodes was a great match showing the power of The Game. The inclusion of the cage along with Legacy was amazing. Rhodes unfortunately did not get the chance to show how talented he is but if there was a Tag team match at Mania I would like to see: Legacy VS The Miz and Morrison VS the Carlito and Primo VS Rey Mysterio and Evan Bourne to unify the tag team titles, with the Miz and Morrison winning the belts cause this would cement their status as the number 1 tag team in the WWE. Jack Swagger has disappeared from ECW seemingly or at least it feels like that, I think I have seen DJ Gabriel and Paul Burchill more than the champion. Personally I think he is a great champion but needs more time to progress in his skill. Also just to finish up I hope ‘Good Old’ JR Jim Ross is ok after from suffering chest pains that he later found out to be walking pneumonia. I hope that he gets better soon.

Also On The Road Again

Raw was good show, great ending but unlike the Cena v Edge story line where the mic work and in ring work has taken the lead, which I think is a good thing. The RKO and Legacy vs HHH storyline is poor because I'd rather see HHH vs legacy a few times rather than this last ten mins showdown each week. Elsewhere the rest of the show was good but I rather see Regal in the MitB than Punk. I don't want Punk to win the WWE or World title because WWE took the mickey last time. Basically my take on Smackdown mostly was that Kozlov did exactly what was need to beat Taker without giving too much away if the match went to Wrestlemania. Also WWE missed a great opportunity to finally unite the Tag titles and reduce the number of titles in WWE and on top of that WWE could have removed Carlito and Primo from the title picture. I don't rate them as a team and I think the Miz and Morrison are the best tag team in the WWE and need to be given the titles. Personally I think WWE should give Chavo or MVP the US title and put Shelton in the MitB match. Along with Tommy Dreamer. Hopefully if that was to happen Dreamer could win the match and win the ECW title and stay on the show cause otherwise Dreamer is going to go and then ECW gonna be left with Swagger and Christian and that's about it. Just a closing point why was Manu released when Kizarny was allowed to stay I mean I know who I would rather have in WWE.

On The Road Again

Now there is no fact that after this week's WWE programming that we are full steam ahead for Wrestlemania 25. On Raw we saw Randy Orton and his Legacy run from Triple H and his sledgehammer all around the arena and then make a quick get away. Hunter's actions on Monday Night and at this time of year (not forgetting Orton has Championship match at WM25) you would have to be stupid to not see this match happening in Texas. It was interesting how after the McMahon situation they have got Randy on the path he should have been anyway, on the Road to Wrestlemania. Also on Raw we could have seen a better match between Shawn Michaels and JBL with a match with the Undertaker at Wrestlemania up for grabs. Somehow, I see that JBL hasn't really now got anywhere to go now, but really thought that he would be a part of the McMahon "Bastard" Storyline. And now Shawn's path to a match at WM, will go through Vlamdir Kozlov and this is where I fell strange, will they really let Kozlov be beat, but if he does win, WWE would have missed one of the biggest optunities in 25 years. On ECW, Christian lost, Tommy won, lets move on. Smackdown was one of the best Smackdown's in ages and it will be interesting to see what Ratings it gets in the US. Another thing that shows that maybe Kozlov will lose on Monday Night is that Kozlov and 'Taker went at it on Friday with Kozlov still getting away with his undefeated steak. Good match in all but did finish a bit too early with the slam off the top rope not really looking like enough to beat the Undertaker, or was it just me? The US Title scene is hotting up with Shelton Benjamin, MVP and Chavo Guerro. On Friday we saw Chavo steal one from Shelton (with Chavo acting as Face) in an alright match, and this should lead to a good match in the feature and maybe at Wrestlemania (but why would WWE give up the chance to get Shelton Benjamin in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match). I'm somehow also fell better now that Chavo isn't so messed up with all the rubbish happening around Vickie and Edge (even though he went up against Cena on Monday Night as Family), at least he's getting some more rope to get into a good feud. Miz and Morrison where also going to try and become the Undisputed Tag Champions in WWE, by winning Carlito and Primo's WWE Tag Team Championship. This was a good match and all in all these four work well together, I wouldn't be suprised if there is a re-match and Miz and Morrison actually win, because they are the best Tag Team in WWE right-now, fighting on every brand (less and less on there actual brand, ECW), if they did win it would also be another thing to feed their ego's as it would be their second WWE Tag Team Championship regin. John Cena and Big Show finished of what was a great night with the match fo the night, these two do have history and Big Show showed how if anything he could be the 3rd part of a Triple Threat for the World Heavyweight Championship. Everything happened in this match including a Wrestlemania deja vu momment with Cena Attitude Adjusting Show (it just doesn't sound the same, does it). But you knew that Edge would get in on the match in some way, but what on earth was that, Tazz said to JR on commentry (after JR over-reacted a bit) that he never did anything, but it was the opening that Show needed (by the way, how did the Big Show get up that quick after the FU) to get the knockout punch and chokeslam, to end Smackdown "clean" for the first time in ages. (And what the fuck is that Cena thing, it's like a double "30" of MVP's "305", what is "Word Life" not PG)
